The shooting of the live-action series The Monster Behind the Iron Curtain begins

22. April 2025
The shooting of the live-action series The Monster Behind the Iron Curtain, written and directed by Tomaž Gorkič, has just started in the town of Medvode.

The story is inspired by the horrific acts of a Yugoslav serial killer.

Set in the shadow of socialist Yugoslavia, this tense psychological thriller reveals the dark aspects of life on the fringes of society. It slowly outlines the figure of a quiet, seemingly harmless individual: a man who blends in with his surroundings but carries a monster inside.

The director, Tomaž Gorkič, said the following about the development and contents of the series: “The entire process of developing the story and the project had lasted for almost ten years before it finally manifested itself as a series covering an extensive historical period. The series, focusing on individuals in the social context of their time, intertwines and merges the protagonists’ fates into a single narrative, which functions as a unique, distorted reflection of human society. It is precisely this distortion that contributes to the creation and even idolisation of serial killer cults.”

The filming will take place over twenty days in Medvode, Tržič, Ljubljana, and Vrhnika in April and May.

Starring Svit Stefanija and Saša Pavlin Stošič. Also featuring Marko Mandić, Sebastian Cavazza, Luka Cimprič, Andrijana Boškovska, Karin Komljanec, Boris Kerč, Katarina Stegnar, Alenka Kraigher, Marinka Štern, Nebojša Pop Tasić, and many others.

The creative team consists of the director of photography Miloš Srdić, costume designer Sanja Grcić, production designer Zoran Lesjak, makeup designer Eva Uršič, editor Jurij Moškon, sound designer Boštjan Kačičnik, and music composer Davor Herceg.
Produced by Deja Škerjanc and the executive producer Eva Tomazin Zevnik, both from Zavod 666 Productions.

The series is financially supported by the Slovenian Film Centre and co-produced by RTV Slovenija, A Atalanta, Zvokarna, MB Grip, and Društvo Veselih umetnikov.
