The first award for Family Film by the director Olmo Omerzu

At the International Film Festival in Tokio (21 – 31 October) Omerzu's Family Film received the Award for Best Artistic Contribution.

Family Film is a story about a married couple which decides to go sailing alone, without the child, to discover the limits of its freedom. The sailing boat sinks and the family gets stranded in the middle of nowhere. Their only hope is their dog on a deserted island. The film is a Czech – German – Slovenian – French – Slovak co-production.

The Slovenian co-producer is Arsmedia, and apart from it the Slovenian share is represented by Nebojša Pop – Tasić, who helped Omerzu with the script, and costume designer Marjetka Kurner Kalous. The director of photography is Lukas Milota, while Janka Vickova is the editor, Iva Nemcova the production designer, and Florian Marquardt the sound designer. Starring Karel Roden, Vanda Hybnerova, Daniel Kadlec, Jenovefa Bokova, Eliska Krenkova, and Martin Pechlat. The film has received the support of the Slovenian Film Centre in the minority co-production programme.

The main award of the Tokio Film Festival went to the Brazilian director Roberto Berliner for his film Nise - O Coração da Loucura, a story about a doctor in the psychiatric hospital on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro who causes a true revolution with an innovative therapeutic approach. Gloria Pires also received the Award for Best Actress for this film.

The Award for Best Direction went to Mustafa Kara for the film Kalandar Soğuğu, depicting a family in the mountain village near the Black Sea, far from the modern civilisation, where the line between truth and fiction is not clear.

The next stop for Family Film will be the competition programme at the film festival in the German city of Cottbus between 3 and 8 November, where a special homage to Slovenian film will be organised in order to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Slovenian Film Centre. On Wednesday, 11 November, this second feature by Olmo Omerzu will open the 26th Ljubljana Film Festival.
