Slovenian films at the festival in Luxembourg

10. October 2014
Between 9 and 26 October the seventh festival of the Central and Eastern European film is taking place in Luxembourg. This year Slovenia is participating in this festival for the third time.

The Slovenian film The Tree by the director Sonja Prosenc was selected by the festival selectors for the Luxembourg festival competition programme, consisting of seven films. After the world premiere in Karlovy Vary, the awards at the festival in Portorož, and the first international award at the Film By the Sea festival in the Netherlands, The Tree is continuing its successful tour of the festivals.

The film will be shown on 15 October at 18:30 in the Cinematheque and on 16 October in the Utopia cinema. Both screenings will be attended by the director of the film Sonja Prosenc, while after the first screening the Slovenian embassy in Brussels will prepare a reception with Slovenian wine. The film is competing for the Grand Prix as well as for the special award of the jury, presided over by the renowned Ukrainian director Sergej Loznitsa.

The Slovenian minority co‑production Barbarians by the Serbian director Ivan Ikić, winner of the Best Co‑production Award in Portorož, scheduled for another screening in Slovenia at the Ljubljana Film Festival in November, will also be shown in the competition programme.

In the context of the "Lux Film Days" programme, Class Enemy by the director Rok Biček will be shown on 25 October at 18:30 in the Cinematheque.

On 26 October at 14:30 the documentary film Project Cancer by the director Damjan Kozole will be shown as a part of the special programme "Ulay in Mudam". The discussion with the artist Ulay will be led by the screenwriter of the film and curator Tevž Logar.

56 live‑action features and documentaries as well as 50 shorts from 18 countries will be screened at this festival.

The festival will be accompanied by around 25 guests and a number of events (concerts, gastronomy evenings, and a photo exhibition presenting Ukraine and the Balkans countries).
