Slovenian Films in Cannes 2014
At this largest global film market the Slovenian Film Centre is showing two new films: Inferno, the third feature by the director Vinko Möderndorfer, produced by Forum Ljubljana; and The Tree, the feature debut by the director Sonja Prosenc, produced by Monoo. The screenings at the Cannes market will ensure that the subsequent international festival premieres of both films will be as successful as possible. The best proof of this is last year's successful breakthrough of the film Class Enemy – the Cannes market was where this film was screened for the first time, and afterwards it had its festival world premiere in Venice, at the oldest film festival in the world.
The Short Film Corner is a professional short film platform where the authors have the opportunity to present their films to the widest global audience, interested in the world shorts and their makers. This year Slovenia will be represented by the following short films: the animated film Koyaa – Flower by the director Kolja Saksida, produced by ZVVIKS; live action shorts Adagio by the director Blaž Završnik and Boom Boom Bis by the director Jani Sever, produced by Sever&Sever Production; and the youth short Kresnik: the Lore of Fire by the director David Sipoš, produced by Haritude Ventures.
In the NEXT Pavilion, where the films of the future are being forged, 67 projects were selected out of 350 applications, among them also the Slovenian documentary projectProbl Houston, We Have a probem by the director Žiga Virc, produced by Studio Virc. In Cannes the producer Boštjan Virc will present the project on 17 May, while on 19 and 20 June he will head to the Cross Video Days in Paris, which is the first co production market for the so called cross media programmes in Europe. The organisers of this event make it possible for the selected projects to meet with the most important television and online exhibitors like Tribeca, POV Digital, YouTube, Channel 4, BBC, Arte, France Télévisions, ZDF, RAI educational, Freemantle, Shine...
This year Slovenian cinematography will be presented for the fifth time in the International Village in the South-East European Pavilion together with the film institutions and filmmakers from Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia. After it was absent last year, Cyprus is also returning to the Pavilion.
The Slovenian part of the pavilion will function as the meeting point for all Slovenian filmmakers, coming to Cannes to present their already completed projects, seeking partners for their projects in development, and establishing all kinds of business contacts in the field of film.
