The films Adria Blues and Dual premiere in Karlovy Vary

05. June 2013
Two Slovenian films – Adria Blues by the director Miroslav Mandić and Dual by the director Nejc Gazvoda – will premiere in the prestigious East of West competition programme among twelve new films.

The East of West competition programme is dedicated to discovering talent hailing from the Central and Eastern Europe, and this year six of the films shown in this programme will be debuts. Slovenia, Slovakia, Russia and Poland each qualified with two films, while Ukraine, Serbia, Estonia and Romania participate with one film each. These are Miroslav Mandić's and Nejc Gazvoda's second feature films.

Nejc Gazvoda will take part in the Karlovy Vary festival for the second year in a row. Last year his first film A Trip was screened in the programme of ten directors selected by the American magazine Variety.

By all means the qualification of two Slovenian films for the renowned A‑list international film festival is a great success for the Slovenian film industry. This is already more like 2005, when as many as three Slovenian films were shown in Karlovy Vary: Tuning by the director Igor Šterk in the main competition programme, Ruins by Janez Burger in the East of West programme, and Suburbs by Vinko Möderndorfer in the Variety magazine section.

In the last eight years the criteria for the East of West competition programme have become much stricter, as now the director of the festival accepts only those films which have not yet been screened at any other festivals.

The Best Film Award in the East of West programme amounts to USD 20.000.
