World premiere of the feature film Slovenian Girl in Sarajevo

Slovenian Girl, the new feature film by Damjan Kozole, will have its world premiere in the competition section of the 15th edition of Sarajevo Film Festival, which will be held from 12 August until 20 August. Sarajevo Film Festival has become the biggest and most important film festival in South East Europe. The Slovenian Minister of Culture Majda Širca will also attend the premiere of the film.

Slovenian Girl will continue its tour of the festivals with the North American premiere at the 39th International Film Festival in Toronto, which is to take place between 9 and 19 September. The festival in Toronto is the biggest film festival in the North America. Immediately after that, Slovenian Girl is heading to the film festival in Reykjavik, taking place between 17 and 27 September.


In October it is to be shown at the international film festival in Pusan, which is the biggest Asian film festival lasting from 8 to 16 October. Slovenian Girl will be screened in the World Cinema selection. At the same time it will appear in the competition programme of the 25th Warsaw Film Festival, taking place between 9 and 18 October. Slovenian Girl has also been invited to the competition programme of the 30th film festival in Valencia, lasting from 16 to 24 October. At this Spanish film festival Kozole achieved a double victory in 2006 with his film Labour Equals Freedom, receiving the Best Director Award as well as the Grand Prix - the Golden Palm for Best Film. In October Slovenian Girl will also be screened at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož, and soon after that it will start showing in the Slovenian cinemas.


In November it is invited to the film festivals in the English Leeds and the Greek Thessaloniki, while in January 2010 it is heading to the biggest Scandinavian film festival in the Swedish Göteborg as well as to one of the most important film festivals worldwide: the Dutch Rotterdam. However, more invitations to international film festivals keep coming.


Damjan Kozole has worked on the feature Slovenian Girl for almost five years. It is a Slovenian - German - Croatian - Serbian coproduction, co financed by the Slovenian Film Fund - a Public Fund.


It was co written by Ognjen Sviličić and Matevž Luzar; Aleš Belak was the director of photography, the band Silence wrote the music, it was produced by Danijel Hočevar, while the main role was portrayed by the debutante Nina Ivanišin. Other roles in the film are played by Peter Musevski, Primož Pirnat, Maruša Kink, Uroš Fürst, Aljoša Kovačič, Dejan Spasić and others.


And what is the film about? Aleksandra is 23 years old and studies English. She comes from a small town. She is getting ready to graduate. However, nobody suspects that she has placed an ad under "Slovenian Girl" and works as a prostitute.
