Slovenian Films at Berlinale 2009
For the fourth year the European Film Market is taking place in the new building - Martin-Gropius-Bau - where the Slovenian Film Fund and thus the Slovenian Film is going to be presented for the fourth time at a joint venue with the Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians and Poles under the common trademark CEC - Central European Cinema.
The following films will be shown at the market screenings: Transition, which premiered at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož, the feature debut by the director Boris Palčič, arriving to Slovenian cinemas in the spring; Letter to a Child, the second feature by the director Vlado Škafar, which has had its successful international premiere just recently at the festival in Rotterdam; and the documentary hit Dar Fur - War for Water by Tomo Križnar and Maja Weiss, which was also presented successfully in December 2008 in Amsterdam, at the most important documentary film festival. At the screenings these films will seek the best festival and sales opportunities.
MEDIA Desk Slovenia is also a part of the Film Fund, and its manager will be present at the Berlinale between 5 and 10 February. MEDIA will present its programme on Monday, 9 February, at the MEDIA Info Day between 10:00 and 16:00 in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. On Info Day the producers, distributors and heads of training will be able to find out the news about the MEDIA programme and the new programme of opening the European film industry into the world - Media International / Media Mundus.
As many as 18 films supported by MEDIA are in this year's Berlinale selection. Five of these are appearing in the competition programme, five in Panorama, three in Forum, three in Generation section, and two in the Berlinale Special.
