Rooster's Breakfast- the Slovenian Academy Award Candidate

The Slovenian candidate for the Foreign Language Academy Award is the film Rooster's Breakfast by Marko Naberšnik, produced by Arsmedia. This year five films applied for the selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the candidate was chosen by the expert commission of the Association of Slovenian Filmmakers (DSFU).

This year five films applied for the selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the candidate was chosen by the expert commission of the Association of Slovenian Filmmakers (DSFU).

The DSFU expert commission consisted of five members, and their selection was also confirmed by the DSFU executive committee, announced its chairman Igor Koršič.

The film Rooster's Breakfast, based on the novel by the writer Feri Lainšček, was the biggest Slovenian box office hit of 2007. According to its distributor, the Ljubljanski kinematografi, it was seen by 182.968 viewers.

At the national festival in Portorož it received the main awards for direction and script (Marko Naberšnik) as well as the leading male role (Vlado Novak), while Pia Zemljič received the Stop Magazine Award for Best Actress of the Year. It was also the best film according to the audience.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been giving The Oscars since 1929. They are one of the most prestigious awards in the field of film arts. The Academy makes it possible for the national expert associations in the field of film in those countries whose official language is not English to present their national suggestions for the nominations in the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film category. According to the decision of the Academy, DSFU selects the films for Slovenia.
