Slovenian films across Europe

18. September 2001
After the great triumph of
Bread and Milk in Venice and a bit of a lesser triumph of The Last Supper in Varna, here is a short review of the festival activities in September. Bread and Milk has been shown between September 6 and September 15 at the festival in Toronto, which is the most important festival for the North American distributors and buyers. In Europe this film has also been shown at the festival in Umei, Sweden, which lasted from September 14 to September 20. Apart from the film by Cvitkovič Miran Zupanič's Rascals! has also been shown at this festival, which is not of competitive nature. For Rascals! this was the first presentation abroad. Besides the new films older ones are also being shown at the festivals in September: Express Express is going to be shown in the French town of Mairie de Rieupeyroux, Porno Film is to be shown in the competition program of the 2nd Mediterannean Film Festival in Köln (from September 21 to September 30) while Fuckit is to be shown in the review section of the same festival. Hladnik's The Castle of Sand from the sixties and the documentary The Road of Brotherhood and Unity by Maja Weiss are to be shown at the still popular Yugoslav Film Reviews in the Cavia cinema in Amsterdam. As far as short films are concerned, F by Janja Glogovac is on tour in September. It is going to be presented in Leeds, Great Britain, between September 27 and October 12. This is going to be the ninth festival presentation for this short film, which was made in co-operation with the film school in Prague.
