Slovenian Films During the Winter
January is very important because of the Rotterdam Film Festival (23 January to 3 February 2002), where three Slovenian films are to be shown. Ljubljana, the second full-length film by Igor Šterk will be shown in the competition section, while Želimir Žilnik’s Fortress Europe will be shown in the New Political Film section. Bread And Milk, a debut by Jan Cvitkovič, is going to be shown in the program of the best films shown at the three biggest European film festivals.
Even before Rotterdam the film festival Alpeadria in Trieste is going to take place between 18 January and 24 January 2002. Harry Rag’s short film Glazier Blues is to be shown in the competition program. After Trieste Glazier Blues is going to the one of the most important short film festivals in Clermont-Ferrand, France, which is to take place between 1 February and 9 February 2002. There the film is once again going to compete for awards. This film’s next opportunity is already coming during the same month when it is going to be shown at the film festival Cinequest in California (21 February to 3 March 2002).
The Slovenian record breaker as far as the number of viewers is concerned - The Last Supper by Vojko Anzeljc – is also going to be presented to the American audience at the same festival.
The festival record breaker Bread and Milk is going to appear at three more festivals in January. First it is going to appear in Palm Springs, USA (January 10 to January 21 2002), where Sweet Dreams by Sašo Podgoršek is also going to be shown. Then it is going to be presented at the Faces Of Love film festival in Moscow (January 13 to January 23 2002) where it is going to compete for new awards – Jan Cvitkovič has already received an award for best actor at this festival for his role in the film Idle Running by Janez Burger. Bread And Milk is also going to compete in Troms, Norway (January 15 to January 20 2002), where Jan is also remembered for his role in Idle Running shown two years ago.
In February Bread And Milk is going to be shown at the Belgrade Fest together with Ode To The Poet by Martin Srebotnjak (1 February to 10 February 2002). In February Slovenia is going to be represented at the Berlin Film Festival with Guardian Of The Frontier by Maja Weiss (6 February to 17 February 2002).
