Spare Parts Receive the Most Awards

On Saturday, 27 September, the 6th Festival of Slovenian Film in Celje has ended. At the final ceremony in the entrance hall of Planet Tus, which was also broadcast by the Slovenian national television, the awards for the best achievements in the field of film and television production were given. Except for the "Vesna Awards" for film achievements and the "Babic Awards" for television work the following awards were also given: the "Stop" magazine awards for best actors, the Synhro Studio award to the producer of the best film , the Kodak Film award to the director of photography, and the Metod Badjura award for life's work.
Vesna Awards in the official selection, the expert jury gave the awards to the following artists and films:
  • the Vesna Award for the best full feature film went to Damjan Kozole for his film Spare Parts, produced by Emotionfilm;
  • the Vesna Award for the best actress went to Polona Juh for her role of Dusa in the film Under Her Window;
  • the Vesna Award for the best actor went to Peter Musevski for his role of Ludvik Zajc in the film Spare Parts;
  • the Vesna Award for the best short film went to Florijan Skubic for the film When I Die, It Will Be A Small Funeral,
  • the Vesna Award for the best documentary work went to Dimitar Anakiev and Simon Oblescak for the film Amigo,
  • the Vesna Award for the best student film went to Florijan Skubic for the film When I Die, It Will Be A Small Funeral,
  • the Vesna Award for the best music went to Igor Leonardi for the music for the film Spare Parts,
  • the Vesna Award for the best photography went to Radislav Jovanov Gonzo for the film Spare Parts,
  • the Vesna Award for the best screenplay went to Metod Pevec for the film Under Her Window,
  • the special jury award for the supporting role went to Marijana Brecelj for the film Under Her Window.
The members of the jury were: Janez Lapajne, film director and the winner of the last year's festival with the film Rustling Landscapes, Miljenko Jergovic, Croatian journalist and writer, Jelka Stergel, director of the Ljubljana International Film Festival, Zenja Leiler, journalist and editor, and Brane Sturbej, actor and lecturer at the theatre department of the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. The jury responsible for the Babic Award for extraordinary achievements in creating the film and documentary film program of the Slovenian National Television and for the direction of a student study, consisting of the president Helena Koder, Peter Kolsek and Jaroslav Skrusny, has decided to give the awards to the following works:
  • the award for the direction went to Jasna Hribernik for the acted-documentary film Tango 5,
  • the award for the best screenplay and for the direction of a documentary film went to the screenwriter Elke Gagi Stojan and the director Alma Lapajne for the documentary film Mother,
  • the award for the direction of the student study went to the director Jurij Gruden for the short television play At Leisure.
The Award of the Audience, which voted for nine full-length films (two documentaries - The Ring and Primoz Peterka - besides the seven feature films) went to the film Kajmak And Marmelade by the director Branko Duric, produced by Ata ProductAwardlions. The Metod Badjura Award for life's work went to the recently deceased director of photography Rudi Vaupotic. The monetary award, which would otherwise go to the receiver of the award, is going to be used by the Slovenian Film Funf anf the Association of Slovenian Film Artists for the purpose of releasing a DVD and a booklet presenting Rudi Vaupotic's work. The jury of the Stop Magazine, consisting of the actress Bernarda Oman, director of photography Karpo Godina and the journalist and critic Miha Brun, gave the following awards:
  • the Stop Magazine actress of the year 2003 award went to Polona Juh for her role of Dusa in the film Under Her Window,
  • the Stop Magazine actor of the year 2003 award went to Peter Musevski for his role of Ludvik Zajc in the film Spare Parts,
  • the Stop Magazine promising actor of the year 2003 award went to Sasa Tabakovic for his roles in the films In The Mountains and Under Her Window,
  • the Stop Magazine supporting actress of the year 2003 award went to Marijana Brecelj for her role of mother in the film Under Her Window.
The Synhro Studio Award went to the producer of the best feature film Danijel Hocevar for the film Spare Parts, and the Kodak Film Award went to the director of photography Radislav Jovanov Gonzo for the photography in the film Spare Parts. Both awards amount to 2000 Euros of material counter value. The Association of Slovenian Film Critics Award goes to the film Under Her Window. At this year's 6th Festival of Slovenian Film, which took place last week in Celje, 57 films were shown. Out of these films seven feature films, five short films, seven animated films, seven documentaries and eleven films from this year's student production were shown in the official selection. As a part of the non-competition program of the official selevtion the co-production Lily's Story (Robert Manthoulis) was shown; the co-production Summer In The Golden Valley by Srdjan Vuletic was shown as a special closed projection. Seventeen works from the television production were also shown at the festival. This year it is three decades since Celje was the host of the festival of national film. The National Film Week took place in Celje from 1973 until 1989, and then after a two-year break prepared the Days Of Slovenian Film were also prepared. Already in the same year the Slovenian Film Marathon was organised in Portoroz; this festival was renamed to the First Festival of Slovenian Film in the year 1998. Although the presentations and reviews of Slovenian film were organised under different names, they have a long tradition and this year it is their thirtieth anniversary. Apart from the Film Fund of the Republic of Slovenia, the Celje Municipality and the media house Novi tednik & Radio Celje also supported this year's festival, which took place from 24 to 27 September, financially and in the organisational sense. The media sponsor of this year's festival is the Slovenian National Television, which also broadcast the final ceremony.
