Slovenian Film on the Red Carpet Again

For the fourth time, from 16th to 27th May the Slovenian Film Fund will present its films at the market of the 60th Cannes Film Festival. This is going to be for the second time in the pavilion of the International Village.

National cinematographies are located in the International Village pavilions, smaller selling agencies in the market part of the Palais, big American distributors and some national cinematographies are renting facilities in hotels.

On the market screenings in Cannes between 17th and 26th May Short Circuits by Janez Lapajne, Mokuš by Andrej Mlakar, Teah by Hanna W. Slak, Estrellita by Metod Pevec, L… Like Love by Janja Glogovac and the Slovenian-Swedish co-production Night by Miha Knific will be shown.

Slovenian pavilion will be the contact point for all Slovenian filmmakers, who will be in Cannes presenting the already finished films or looking for partners for developing projects. There, individuals can organise meetings with international film professionals and present their activities. This year the Grossman Film and Wine Festival will introduce to the international public. It is to take place in Ljutomer for the third time this August.

However, Slovenian film will be presented in the official part of the Cannes Film Festival, in the programme Tous les Cinemas du Monde (All the Cinemas of the World), whose “primary goal is illustrating the cultural diversity of world cinema and also enable us to visit the film industries of new countries”. This year films from India, Lebanon, Poland, African countries, Columbia, and Slovenia were included into the programme. Every state will be presented on a certain day, Slovenian programme will take place on 25th May. Selection of Slovenian films that were made after the year 2002 was made by programme director Serge Soboczynski. Slovenian day in Cannes will feature full-length films Suburbs (2004) by Vinko Möderndorfer, Gravehopping (2005) by Jan Cvitkovič, Beneath Her Window by Metod Pevec, and Blind Spot (2002) by Hanna W. Slak. In the short-film programme Hop, Skip &Jump by Srdjan Vuletiæ, (A)torsion by Stefan Arsenijeviæ, Heart is a Piece of Meat by Jan Cvitkovič will be screened as well as two films made by students of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana; A Half by Slobodan Maksimoviæ and Good Luck, Nedim by Mark Šantiæ that in 2006 listed among fourteen finalists in the category for the best European short film.

On celebrating of the 60th anniversary of the most significant film festival Slovenian film will be celebrating as well.
