Slovenian Films in Brussels

24. February 2008
Slovenian films are going to be presented between 1st and 4th March in the cultural centre Flagey in Brussels. During the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the showcase is a focused glimpse at the Slovenian cinematography between 1987 and 2007.

The event is co-ordinated by the Slovenian Film Fund and the Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the EU in Brussels, with the assistance of Creative Media Business Alliance CMBA, 2007. The event is going to open with Marko Naberšnik's feature debut, Rooster's Breakfast, the biggest box office hit among Slovenian films in the last two decades, which has already brought more than 170 000 viewers into Slovenian cinemas. With the film The Felons, dating back to 1987, we pay homage to the director Franci Slak, who passed away in the end of last year. The family drama Tuning by the director Igor Šterk, taking place precisely between Brussels and Ljubljana, is going to conclude the Slovenian film evenings in the capital of the European Union. The screenings will also include the short animated film Liebeskrank by the young artist Špela Èadež, which has already received multiple awards, and the episode Cherries from the 2003 animated film series The Beezes by the director Gregor Mastnak. The 1997 dance film Vertigo Bird, directed by Sašo Podgoršek, which surpasses the boundaries of gravitation, shows the dance "En knap" dance group at its best.
