French premiere of Slovenian Girl

On Friday, 28 January 2011, a solemn French premiere of the Slovenian feature film Slovenian Girl by the director Damjan Kozole took place at the Le Nouveau Latina cinema in Paris.

The film, produced by Vertigo / Emotionfilm and co produced by foreign partners, is starting its tour of the French cinemas on 2 February. The French distributor Epicentre Films from Paris announced that twelve copies of the film will be screened in Paris and all over France. This is the first Slovenian film ever to be shown as a part of the regular cinema distribution in France. The solemn premiere was also attended by the director of the film and the Slovenian ambassador to France, Veronika Stabej.


Slovenian Girl has already been distributed in cinemas around the United States, Canada, Hungary, Netherlands, Belgium and Serbia, and has yet to be screened in several other countries. To date the film has also been screened at more than sixty international film festivals around the world and it has received several international awards, among others also the Audience Award at the Cinessonne Festival in Paris in November 2010. Recently it was also shown at the Tromsø International Film Festival in Norway.


In the most important film publications like Variety, Moving Picture Magazine, Screen International and Filmmaker Magazine, Slovenian Girl has received excellent reviews, and it has seen a lot of positive responses after each festival as well as at numerous websites and blogs. The film by the director and co writer Damjan Kozole was made in Slovenian German Croatian Serbian co production. It was co written by Ognjen Sviličić and Matevž LuzarAleš Belak was the director of photography, the band Silence wrote the music, it was produced by Danijel Hočevar, while the main role was portrayed by the debutante Nina Ivanišin. Other roles in the film are played by Peter Musevski, Primož Pirnat, Maruša Kink, Uroš Fürst, Aljoša Kovačič, Dejan Spasić and others.


The film was co financed by the Slovenian Film Fund, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, with the cooperation of RTV Slovenia and film studio Viba Film.
