Film production

The Slovenian Film Centre, like the Film Fund of the Republic of Slovenia before it, co finances the production of Slovenian films. At least once per year it opens and carries out public competitions for live action, documentary and animated films, first films, minority co productions and student films.

Since 2012 the Slovenian Film Centre has also been in charge of the co‑financing of Slovenian audiovisual works, intended especially for use in media. In the first three years the Centre supported the production of almost 50, mostly medium‑length audiovisual works.

Since its establishment in 1995 and until 2014, the Slovenian Film Centre financed more than a hundred Slovenian features. Since 2000, when it also started supporting international co‑productions, it also co‑financed 33 features in which the Slovenian co‑producers participated with a minority share.

Every academic year, in the context of the programme of support for film education at the university level, the Slovenian Film Centre opens a competition for the co‑financing of the realisation of student films and TV works. Traditionally the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana (UL AGRFT) and the School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica take part in the competition. In this way the Centre allows for the realisation of around 15 student audiovisual works, created as a part of the regular pedagogic process, enriching the Slovenian cultural space with notable and award‑winning artistic achievements of talented students every year.
