Film education
In the period between 2011 and 2014 we can note a large scale development of the Film Culture Education in Slovenia.
The increasingly diverse events in this field have been made possible by the new film education strategy, introduced pursuant to the Slovenian Film Centre, a Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia Act (ZSFC, 2010). Article 5 of the Act states the following as an activity of this Agency:
encouraging the development of film and audiovisual culture, development of high‑school training in artistic professions in the field of audiovisual activities and development of film education;
It is characteristic of the existing film education activities in Slovenia that they are reduced to the so‑called extra‑curricular or after‑school activities, meaning activities intended for children and youth. However, also with the support of the Slovenian Film Centre this activity is on the rise, increasingly diversified into all possible informal formats and encompassing an increasing number of children and youth.It is also important to support the accessibility of film education programmes and efforts to carry out the film education around as many different places in Slovenia as possible. As these are informal formats of film education, which are not a part of the regular (obligatory) curricula of the primary and secondary schools, they are, as a rule, carried out by cultural institutions – public institutes and societies.
The Act provides for the support of programmes and projects of film education and schooling as one of the basic activities of the Agency.The annual Agency competition may be applied by legal persons of the private or public law with all sorts of educational and schooling programmes for children and youth as well as adults. The Agency supports programmes intended for all age groups from pre‑school children (for example cinematographic family programmes or animated film workshops for kindergarten children) all the way to educational programmes for adults and the study programme at the university level.
